WK3 Project: Digital Storytelling with Mobile Apps Challenge

For the Digital Storytelling project, our group was planning on making a video that was worth sharing and would make an impact. Unfortunately, we could not get the equipment to make the type of video we wanted to create, but that didn’t stop us. We then decided to make a storyboard and apply what we had learned during this course. The two applications we used in this storyboard were Skype and Photoshop. We used photoshop to edit some photos that we have included in our storyboard. The company we decided to advertise was Skype, because we believe it is a very important part in many people’s lives and we wanted to show the emotions that it can bring into people’s lives through our story.
Individual Roles/Titles for our project:
Gabriela Sader - Lead Writer/Researcher
David Thielke - Art Director/Editor
Jihun Im - Assistant Director/Documentarian
Kristian Robles Cruz - Project lead/Producer/Strategist
REFLECTION
Gabriela:
It was very enjoyable working with my team. The communication was fine, although sometimes it was hard to contact some members. Another difficulty we had to face was setting a meeting time, and not many members showing up. This slowed us down for a while and made us get stuck along the way. Also, we did not have equipment to film because the person that was supposed to bring it is sick.
But with communication and patience, we came up with an alternative project that would still work out. That is when we decided to make a storyboard. Making the storyboard was exciting, we finally all came together and worked as hard as we could to make a decent storyboard that would keep the audience entertained. I learnt a lot from this project, and I am grateful that these ups and downs happened because that got our team closer together.
Jihun:
I was happy to work with this team for week 3 project. While there were some problem in the progress, we found another way to solve it. After that, we decided to make a storyboard and take some photos individually. Everyone made a great work, and the communication became easy. Working for this project was a good experience to me. I really enjoyed this assignment.
Kris:
This was the most challenging group project this month not because of the material but the people that I had to work with. For example we had to ask for extension due to one of our teammates got sick and we didn't have equipment. But this was an awesome challenge because we had to go to plan B and kinda feel the pressure that I would feel in the workforce. This has taught me that asking for help is okay and asking for extension is good. We were able to sit down and regroup and came out with a plan. I think that I learned more this class project than all the others. I want to thank Pete for the mentoring and my fellow classmates for sticking together and not bail on the group.
David:
My role in the team was as the creative director/art director. My goal was to come up with the creative outline and coordinate the photography, graphic design, audio and creative content for the commercial. The most surprising thing about this challenge was how passionate everyone in my team became after discovering a personal connection to our chosen brand. I am most proud of the work everyone was able to complete in such a short time frame. The challenges we faced along the way were communicated to the instructor, and everyone was able to adapt to the hurdles, and still complete the overall challenge. This was indeed a challenge. Coming up with an original concept that tells a relevant story was the ultimate challenge in this class. Using digital apps and working as a team added to the challenge, but made it fun and exciting to master the task with our newly acquired digital media tools.
